Air sealing first, then depth, then proof
An attic install is only as good as what happens before the hose comes out. We seal the top plates, can lights, plumbing chases and the hatch, because loose insulation over an air leak just filters the air on its way out. Then we blow cellulose or fiberglass to the depth the quote promised, and we install depth markers so you can see it for yourself.

Most Portland attics we open up sit between R-11 and R-19. Code for a new attic is R-49. That gap is where the heating bill goes.

Install and clean up
Most attics are done in a day. We lay drop cloths, blow it in, bring you up to see the depth markers, and leave the house cleaner than we found it.
What R-value should a Portland attic have?
Current Oregon code for a new attic is R-49, and Energy Trust pays out at R-38 or better. If you are opening the attic once, going to R-49 or higher is worth it. The last few inches are cheap.
Can you insulate over what is already there?
Yes, if it is dry, clean and not vermiculite. We rake it level, air seal what we can reach, and top it up. If it is wet, rodent damaged or compressed to nothing, removal comes first.
What about the recessed lights?
Older can lights cannot be covered directly. We build or install fire rated covers, seal them, and then insulate over the top. It is one of the biggest single leaks in a 1980s or 1990s ceiling.
Will you check the venting?
Every time. Blocked soffit vents turn a warm attic into a wet one. We install baffles where they are missing and tell you if the roof needs more ventilation.
