The Willamette Valley sits on damp clay. Most crawl spaces we enter have insulation hanging off the joists, a torn or missing ground cover, and rim joists that were never sealed. The result is cold floors in January and a house that smells like the crawl space in July. We fix all three. Floor insulation goes in to R-30 and stays put with proper support, the rim joists are foamed, and a 6 mil or heavier vapor barrier is laid and sealed at the piers.

Install and clean up
Most attics are done in a day. We lay drop cloths, blow it in, bring you up to see the depth markers, and leave the house cleaner than we found it.
Does Energy Trust pay for floor insulation?
Yes. For an owner occupied single family home going from R-11 or less to R-30 or better, the incentive is $0.75 per square foot. Rentals pay $1.00 to $1.25 depending on the property.
Should I encapsulate instead?
Sometimes. Full encapsulation with a sealed liner and conditioned air is the right answer for some homes with chronic moisture. For most, a well installed floor insulation package with a good vapor barrier gets 90 percent of the benefit at a fraction of the cost. We will tell you which one your house needs.
What if there is water down there?
Insulation over standing water is wasted money. We will point you to drainage or a sump first, then come back. That is the honest order of operations.
How long does it take?
Most crawl spaces are one day. Tight access or removal of old material can push it to two.
