Insulation Removal

Insulation removal when the old stuff has to go

Wet, contaminated or rodent damaged insulation does not get better under a new layer. We vacuum it out and haul it away.

When to remove

Four reasons the old insulation comes out

  • Rodent activity: droppings, nests and urine soaked material
  • Water damage from a roof leak or a bathroom fan venting into the attic
  • Vermiculite, which must be tested and handled separately
  • A remodel that needs the joists clear for wiring, ducting or a new ceiling

We run a truck mounted vacuum with the hose up through the hatch, so nothing gets carried through the house. Old material is bagged and disposed of. The attic is swept, we sanitize where there was rodent activity, and then it is ready for air sealing and new insulation, usually the next day.

How it works

Four steps from call to warm

  1. Call or send the form

Tell us the city, the age of the house and what you have noticed. We will tell you on the phone whether it is worth a visit.

  2. We measure, not guess

We get in the attic or crawl space, check the depth, the air leaks, the venting and the wiring, and photograph it for you.

  3. One written price

Square footage, R-value, materials, air sealing and the rebate you qualify for, all on one page. Good for 30 days.

  4. Install and clean up

Most attics are done in a day. We lay drop cloths, blow it in, bring you up to see the depth markers, and leave the house cleaner than we found it.

Questions

Insulation Removal questions

More on the FAQ page or call (503) 555-0142.

How much does removal cost?

In the Portland market removal typically runs $1.00 to $2.00 per square foot depending on depth, contamination and access. It is always a separate line on the quote.

Do you handle vermiculite?

We will identify it and stop. Vermiculite can contain asbestos and must be tested and removed by a licensed abatement contractor. We can refer you and come back after.

Will it make a mess inside?

No. The hose runs from the truck to the attic hatch, and we cover the floor beneath the hatch. The insulation never travels through your rooms.

Can you do removal and reinstall together?

Yes, and most customers do. Removal one day, air sealing and new insulation the next.
